Kate Fortnam receives Highly Commended Award at the British Yachting Awards.

Kate Fortnam, Campaign Manager of The Green Blue, was thrilled to receive Highly Commended in the Outstanding Achievement Category of this year’s British Yachting Awards. The magazine’s readers voted for the awards, organised by Sailing Today with Yachts and Yachting magazine.

Kate said: “Being nominated for the Outstanding Achievement Award was a true honour. Knowing that my contributions in supporting the boating community in becoming more sustainable has been acknowledged, and that this has made meaningful impact is incredibly rewarding. I would also like to thank the wider Sustainability team at the RYA for their continued support.”

Six award winners are holding their prizes.
Kate demonstrated her passion for sustainable sailing when invited to be the opening guest speaker at the event. She highlighted the opportunities to incorporate sustainable sailing best practices into all on the water-related activities and enthused the audience with sustainable solutions.

“It was a pleasure to deliver the opening speech at the awards. I feel it is an exciting and inspiring era, where the boating sector is gaining momentum and coming together to innovate and adopt more sustainable practices. As a boating community we have an intrinsic connection with our waters and the wildlife and habitats we share them with. We therefore have an important role to not only protect, but to enhance these places, for the benefit of people and nature, now and for years to come.”

The awards were held at the Royal Thames Yacht Club and were presented by British yachting journalist and broadcaster Paul Heiney.
