The Green Blue prepare to bring a splash of green to the virtual RYA Dinghy Show

Listen, learn and interact with The Green Blue at this year’s RYA Dinghy Show 27-28 February.

The Green Blue, the Royal Yachting Association and British Marine’s joint environmental programme, is set to throw a green light on sustainability at this year’s virtual RYA Dinghy Show.

On the second day of the popular annual show, Kate Fortnam, The Green Blue’s Campaign Manager, will be joined on the virtual Main Stage by iQFOiL athlete, Saskia Sills, passionate young sailor Harry Slight from Emsworth Sailing Club and Courtney Burroughs, Regional Volunteer for The Green Blue. The group of enthusiastic environmentalists will be encouraging positive action from boaters by discussing why protecting their sailing environment is important to them and what changes water users can make to safeguard the waters they rely on for their wellbeing and enjoyment.

Kate Fortnam, Campaign Manager, said: “We’re delighted to once again be returning to the RYA Dinghy Show, the audience at the Show are always so welcoming and receptive. We really enjoy chatting with visitors at the Show, especially at The Green Blue exhibition stand, and although we may not be physically sharing the same space visitors can still ask us their questions on our virtual stand in the Exhibition Hall.”

The Green Blue will also be announcing at the RYA Dinghy Show which of the participating university sailing clubs have successfully completed the University Sailing Sustainability Challenge (USSC). The Challenge has been supported by the British Universities Sailing Association since it was first launched in 2015 and continues to grow year-on-year. Each university which has completed the required sustainability actions in its award level: Bronze, Silver, Gold, will be entered to win a cash prize draw, sponsored by eco-friendly clothing brand, OceanR.

Kate commented: “It is so exciting to reach the end of this year’s USSC. It has been a strange and unusual year to hold the USSC but the university sailing clubs have really impressed us with their can-do attitudes and innovative ways of reaching their sustainability goals. Each of the clubs should be proud of what they have achieved.”

Kate Fortnam will be on the RYA Dinghy Show’s Main Stage at 1pm on Sunday 28 February with Saskia Sills and Harry and Courtney. The prize draw of the University Sailing Sustainability Challenge will follow at 1.30pm. You can also visit The Green Blue’s stand in the Exhibition Hall.
