Activity sheets

The Green Blue has launched its first set of online educational activity worksheets aimed at instructors and group leaders keen to integrate environmental awareness into their boating activities and courses for young people.

The ten activities are the first set to be released with more to follow in the near future. Activities include a selection of fun and creative tasks such as acting out an alien species, designing a sustainable boat and ‘The Plunge’. There are also a number of more challenging environmental assignments that cover testing the pH levels of everyday products used on board a boat, assessing the different potential sources of environmental pollution that could affect local water quality, and completing an environmental audit of a local training centre or club building.

Activities can take from 30 minutes to an hour and are suitable for different age groups from eight years up.

Kate Fortnam, The Green Blue’s Environmental Outreach Officer, commented: “We’ve created this new resource in response to growing demand from instructors and leaders on how they can include environmental awareness into boating activities. The worksheets and resources are all available to download free of charge and we’re confident that they will provide a lot of fun but also support instructors to engage young boaters in the environment around them.”

Craig Burton, RYA’s Training Resource Manager, added: “Instructors and leaders of youth activities now have a great resource to introduce caring for the environment in a fun and engaging way. Whether as part of a formal lesson plan or an informal evening activity these worksheets provide all the information you will need to deliver a great session.”
