Mike Golding is the first person ever to sail single-handed and non-stop around the world in both directions. He is one of the world’s leading sailors and has now sailed around the world six times – four times of which were solo.

A former fireman, Golding’s first professional success came in the 1990s with the Global Challenge. In 1993-94, he completed his first non-stop solo circumnavigation 'the wrong way', beating Blyth's record by 125 days.

Since then, he has competed in numerous ocean races and has consistently been at the forefront of the professional IMOCA Open 60 class, achieving podium positions in most of the major events and setting three new world sailing records in the process.

Mike was FICO World Champion in 2005/6 and IMOCA World Champion for two successive years 2004/5 and 2005/6; the only British sailor to hold this coveted title. In January 2007 he was awarded an OBE for his services to the sport of sailing. Married with a son, Mike is a firm believer in the need to protect our future environment. This is also reflected in his extremely successful partnership with sponsor Ecover. He has been a Project Ambassador for The Green Blue for a number of years, and continues to support its core aims to embed a degree of environmental awareness in all yachtsmen.
